KOCHI: Four days since it began, people from within and outside Kochi have been thronging The Hindu Metroplus Lifestyle Show at the Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium, Kaloor.

With the event set to conclude on Monday, the weekend crowd just could not remain indoor. Saturday and Sunday saw serious and not-so-serious shoppers land up at the venue. Brisk business went on at the stalls.

New products and stalls have come up in the two air-conditioned hangars, which house the show. Spacecraft furniture — which in many ways ensures space utilisation, dishwashers, electric chimneys, antiques, electric tandoor, portable basins with shelves beneath, carpets from Turkey, stalls featuring colourful sarees and churidars, artificial flowers and hand bags from Thailand... quite a few new range of products appeared in the stalls.

Among those who have set up stalls is Star Cruises, which operates cruise ships in India and South-East Asia. Hyundai, Tata and Kinetic are among the automobile firms that are participating.

Sony, Godrej, Reliance, Onida and Whirlpool are among the others who have stalls. Then there are entrepreneurs like Veena from Mumbai and Kutch Crafts, which have brought in their collection of garments.

BSNL, the communication partners of the show, has a slew of attractive offers. On giving 25 per cent extra on recharge coupons of Rs 3,000 to Rs 5,000, customers get free talk time. They get full talk time with coupons of Rs.500 and Rs.1,000.

"We will not charge activation fee on plan-100 to plan-525 up to September 16. Mobile-to-mobile is free for plan-725. Using the new friends-and-family offer, one can speak to two BSNL lines, at 10 paise per minute," an official said.

Among the interesting new range of products are galvanised steel doors. It works using a 12-level locking system — there are locks on the top, side and bottom of the door.

Desktop and laptop computers (with luring festival offers), portable lights, mattresses, cameras, TV sets, Rajasthani and Punjabi phulkari garments, home linen, miniature/indoor fountains from Italy, products to do up the interiors, imported melamine crockery, pottery items, health equipment, stoneware and wooden lanterns... the list is quite mind-boggling.

A food court at the tail-end of the hangar offers a range of mouth-watering dishes.

Samsung is the show's partner, while Crocodile and Rubber Board are among the co-sponsors. Kishore Kumar Nair of Kakkanad won the bumper gift (Bordeaux 26'' LCD TV) under the Samsung scratch and win offer. iCare Communications is the event managers.

The other partners are Taj Residency (hospitality), Planet M and AVT Premium Tea (food and beverages) and Sabols (water).
