CAPTIVATING: Etawah bedspreads on show at the Gujarat Emporium exhibition in Kollam.

KOLLAM: Colourful handloom and handicraft products from various States are on show at the Jawahar Bal Bhavan auditorium here since Friday.

The show organised by Gujarat Emporium is drawing good crowd. Gujarat Emporium is the authorised showroom of the Gujarat State Handloom, Handicrafts and Industrial Cooperative Federation.

Applique work saris

The products on show range from Balucheri and Kantha work saris from West Bengal to flower and applique work saris and dress material from Punjab.

There are captivating Lucknow cotton handwork saris, Mau polycotton and Chikan saris from Uttar Pradesh, cotton saris from Maharasthtra, Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh and Daka muslin saris.

There are colourful dress materials which comprise Kashmiri salwars, pearl-studded skirts and tops, kurtas, sherwanis, churidars, gadi and block print skirts, Jaipuri silver jewellery finished in precious and semi-precious stones, aluminium and copper mix black metal work from Hyderabad, white metal handicrafts which do not lose their lustre, leather products from Tamil Nadu and various products from the traditional sector.

The attraction of the show is the famous bedspreads from Etawah in Uttar Pradesh.

These come in a wide range of bright and light colours with the characteristic broad hand-woven horizontal stripes.

It is reportedly for the first time that Etawah bedspreads are on show in Kollam. Manager of the emporium K. Arunachalam said that care had been taken to ensure that the shades of saris and dress materials suited the taste of people of the State.

This is the fourth time that Gujarat Emporium is conducting the exhibition in Kollam.
