GULBARGA: Akhila Karnataka Vishwakarma Mahasabha president K.P. Nanjundi on Sunday said successive State Governments had neglected the Vishwakarma community and failed to concede to its long-pending demands, including three per cent reservation in the total reservation meant for the Other Backward Classes (OBCs). Mr. Nanjundi told presspersons that the community members numbering 35 lakh in the State have would launch a sustained agitation throughout the State and set a deadline of two months for the State Government to concede to their demand for reservation of three per cent. They also wanted political representation from the gram panchayat level to the Parliament and declaration of the traditional work of the Vishwakarmas as industry. He said one of the reasons for the neglect of the community was their lack of organising skills. To overcome this, the Mahasabha has established its units in all hoblis, taluks and district headquarters.
