Narayanasamy welcomes move to get statehood for Pondy

Pondicherry: AICC General Secretary, V Narayanasamy, MP, has welcomed the efforts of the Pondicherry Government to get statehood with special category status for Pondicherry, which was a Union Territory.

However care should be taken that Pondicherry had sustained revenue base so that there would be no difficulty in making progress in every sector of development and in registering faster economic growth, he told reporters here on Saturday.

Mr. Narayanasamy said that the Standing Committee of the Union Home Ministry had already submitted its report recommending the statehood with special category status for Pondicherry, B Two status for Pondicherry city and recognition of Scheduled Tribes residing in Pondicherry.

He felt that the Government should promote projects with a new industrial policy to attract entrepreneurs.
