CHENNAI: The memoranda of understanding (MoUs) between National Cadet Corps (NCC) and United Nations on HIV/AIDS prevention and drugs and crime control are in final stages, NCC Director-General Lt. General M. C. Bhandari said on Friday. Once the agreement was finalised, the NCC would receive funding up to $2 lakh to carry out nationwide awareness campaign on the issues. The NCC, which was already involved in Phase III project of National AIDS Control Organisation, would campaign for treating patients with dignity as well as to create awareness to prevent new infections, Mr. Bhandari told The Hindu . Later, at a function organised by the Tamil Nadu Directorate, he initiated the piping ceremony elevating K. Ravindran, a Major (honorary) from the 15 Tamil Nadu Battalion, NCC Erode, to the rank of Lt. Colonel (honorary). For the first time in the NCC history, an Associate NCC Officer is granted the honorary rank of Lt. Colonel.
