KOZHIKODE: Public Works Minister P.J. Joseph on Sunday said he would hold discussions with the Centre on taking up reconstruction of bridges in Malabar which became weak. Mr. Joseph also demanded that the Kochi-Mangalore road be included in the Golden Quadrangle, a National Highway Development Project aimed at connecting the four corners of the country. Talks would be held with the Centre in this regard, he told reporters.
To seek forest land
The Government would approach the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests to seek forest land for laying of alternative road to the Wayanad Ghat. The stone for the construction of the Bairakuppa bridge, near the Kerala-Karnataka border, would be laid soon. The work would be completed in 18 months. Development works on roads connected with tourism projects would be taken up immediately. Work on the bypass roads in the State would be completed soon.
Bridge inaugurated
Mr. Joseph inaugurated the Thiruvambadi-Kodencherry-Puthuppadi road and Ceylonkadavu Bridge, Kodencherry.
