Annamalai University lifted the Rev. Fr. Montaud memorial trophy after defeating Lady Doak College 1-0 in the final of the State-Level inter-collegiate women's hockey tournament at Arulanandar College, Karumathur near Madurai on Saturday. Earlier, Pachaiyappa's College, Chennai claimed the men's title by defeating Sourashtra College, Madurai 2-0. Double for AUCPE
Alagappa University College of Physical Education, Karaikudi won both the men's and women's titles at the Alagappa University inter-collegiate basketball tournament in Ramanathapuram on Saturday. Nithin wins gold
V. Nithin of Chennai won a gold and silver in the boys' events of the State Cadets fencing championship organised by the Tuticorin District Fencing Association on Friday. D. Ramesh Flowers wins
Ramesh Flowers CC defeated Power CC by 68 runs in the final of the 17th L.P. Rayen memorial trophy district-level cricket tournament organised by the Tuticorin DCA on Saturday. Superintendent of Police Y. John Nicholson gave away the prizes. The scores: RFCC 212 for nine in 40 overs bt Power CC 144 for nine in 40 overs (Thirumani 52).
Badminton tournament
The Yonex senior State badminton championship organised by the Dindigul DBA will get underway at the Akshya Vidyalaya Indoor Stadium in Dindigul on August 22. Big win for Tiruvallur Prasanth powered his way to a brilliant 108 and Panchapakesan returned figures of five for 15 to help Tiruvallur register a resounding 271-run victory over Nilgiris in the TNCA inter-district under-19 cricket tournament in Theni on Sunday.
The scores: At Theni: Tiruvallur 342 for six in 50 overs (J. Prasanth 108, Venkatvasan 59, Abilash 39, Manoraj 41) bt Nilgiris 71 in 20.1 overs (Panchapakesan five for 15, Kishore three for nine).
