KOZHIKODE: M. Dileep Kumar of Kozhikode emerged the `strong man' on Sunday evening after breaking 6000 tiles and 200 ice blocks by striking them against his body at the Indoor Stadium here. It took him nearly 46 minutes to break the tiles. A large audience watched, with bated breath, as Dileep's students hit tiles against his stomach, arms and other parts of the body. Mr. Kumar had earlier attempted to enter the Guinness Book of World Records by breaking 2500 tiles at Jagmohan Palace in Mysore in January 2006. The whole excitement began when Industries Minister Elamaram Karim kicked-off the breaking spree by hitting tiles against the strong man's stomach. Aged 43, Dileep Kumar is a Fifth Dan Black Belt and is a member of the bodyguards of Mysore King Srikanta Datta Narasimha Raja Wodeyar. After receiving the blows and breaking the 6000 tiles, Mr. Kumar took a short break. His disciples meanwhile broke nearly 30 granite walls, a few of them with their own heads. Mr. Kumar who learned `kalari' at the age of nine had also had his training in karate and is now running the Kaju-Kado Karate and Martial Arts Academy Full Contact at West Hill here.
