Vijaykumar remains on top

CHENNAI: C. Vijaykumar and Karan Kadam, both from Team TVS Racing (Bangalore), shared the honours in the second round of the MRF National supercross championship by emerging triumphant in the first and second moto's respectively in the Indian Experts category— foreign motorcycles, Group `A' two/four-stroke 250cc-450cc class at the C. Kandaswamy College here on Sunday.

By finishing first in the first moto and third in the second, Vijaykumar remains at the top of the overall championship points tally with 35. The promising 16-year-old Karan could have found himself on the podium had he completed the first moto.

The 2004 National champion Vijaykumar, though not the first to go off the blocks, slowly manoeuvred his way through single and double jumps to finish well ahead of C.S. Santosh (TVS, Bangalore) and T.K. Viswanath of Bangalore.

Confident Karan

Karan, who couldn't complete the first moto because of problems with his vehicle in the sixth lap (total of 14 laps), started off in a confident manner in the second. Endowed with skills and fitness, Karan bided his time knowing the strengths and weaknesses of his opponents fully well.

Lagging behind Vishwanath, the 16-year-old from Bangalore took charge from the fifth lap. Santosh and Vijaykumar came second and third respectively.

The third round will take place on September 23 and 24 in Hyderabad.

Indian Experts: Group `D' (four-stroke, 80cc-110cc): C.D. Jinan (TVS, Bangalore). Indian Experts: Group `D' (four-stroke, 125cc-160cc): Jinan. Local class: Group `B' (two/four-stroke, 110cc-250cc): E. Clarke (TVS, Fiero). Intermediate Class (private entries): T.K. Vishwanath (Bangalore). Overall points: 1. C. Vijaykumar (35), 2. C.S. Santosh (32), 3. T.K. Vishwanath (28).
