BHOPAL: The entrance exam-DMAT 2006, conducted on August 13 for admissions to private medical and dental colleges of Madhya Pradesh has been cancelled in the wake of allegations of leakage of questions papers and several other irregularities. The decision to cancel the DMAT Exam was taken this past weekend by a High Court monitoring Committee headed by Justice Chandresh Bhushan. It was a majority decision with one dissenting vote coming from the Committee chairman, who voted against the decision. The members who voted in favour of the decision to cancel the exam were the State Principal Secretary Medical Education, M.M. Upadhayaya, former Dean Gandhi Medical College, Harihar Trivedi and Director of National La Institute, B.S. Chauhan. The Association of Private Dental and Medical Colleges (APDMC) had conducted the exam and its representatives were given the chance to be heard before the axe fell on the August 13 DMAT Exam. Private Medical and Dental colleges in Madhya Pradesh have the clearance from the Centre and the State Government to fill 350 MBBS seats and 700 BDS seats. The High Court Monitoring Committee had earlier allowed APDMC to conduct the entrance exam to fill these seats. However the credibility of this exam came under cloud after the Police had recently seized incriminating documents, including post-dated cheques and huge unaccounted cash, from an employee of a private dental college in the State capital.
