BANGALORE: Well-known singer Puttur Narasimha Nayak and Katha Keertana expert A.R. Puttachar have been chosen for the honorary awards of the Karnataka Sangeetha Nritya Academy for 2006-07. The academy at its general body meeting here on Saturday and presided over by its chairman Rajashekhar Mansur also decided to confer the annual awards on 16 persons representing different fields of music and dance. They award winners are: Carnatic music: R.N. Srilatha, Mysore (vocal); B.D. Lakshman, Bangalore (vocal); K.V. Raja Iyengar, Bangalore (violin) and Ullur Nagendra Udupa (mridanga). Hindustani music: Subrahmanya Mahabaleshwara Bhat, Uttara Kannada (vocal); Muddu Mohan, Bangalore (vocal); R.H. More, Bagalkot (tabla) and Shadakshari Gawai, Gadag (harmonium). Dance: B.V. Ramanamurthy, Bangalore; Sarvottam D. Kamath, Bangalore and C. Mahadevanna, Bangalore (mridanga for dance). Light music: Narayanarao Mane, Bangalore and Parvathisutha, Bangalore. Katha Keertana: S.N. Suresh, Bangalore. Gamaka: Markandeya Avadhani, Matthur. Musicologist: S.A. Tapale, Gulbarga. The academy in an official release stated that the awards would be distributed in the second week of October in Dharwad. While honorary awards carry a purse of Rs. 10,000, the annual awards carry a purse of Rs. 5,000.
