BELLARY: The Bellary (Rural) Police have arrested four persons in connection with the murder of Leelendra (26), son of Kishore Babu, a contractor in the city. Police are on the lookout for Vamshi and Srinivas and a few others, who are still at large. D.C. Rajappa, in-charge Superintendent of Police, in a press release stated that Kishore Babu filed a complaint on August 12 that his son Leelendra was missing since August 11. Mr. Babu had informed that his son had left the house stating that he would be going to meet his friends. Leelendra's body was found in the HLC Canal on August 15. The investigating team arrested Ratnababu (24), an engineering college student; Chennabasavanagowda (20), car driver; Subbaraju (25), electrician; and Kuldeep (23), based on the clues provided by Mr. Babu. On interrogation, the four are said to admitted to murdering Leelendra along with Vamshi, Srinivas and a few others. All the accused, in order to make easy money, had hatched plans to threaten a hotelier and also kidnap people from wealthy families, the release said. When they did not succeed, they called Leelendra to the dhaba on Hospet Road and took him in a car. When Leelendra did not agree to their plan to get Rs. 5 lakh from his parents and resisted, the accused strangulated him and threw him in the canal after tying his legs and putting iron rings on the body. They fled the scene with gold ornaments and other valuables worn by Leelendra.
