Entries for teacher awards invited

Kanthi Marg, a voluntary service organisation, is inviting applications from teachers to present `best teacher' awards on the occasion of the birth anniversary of former President Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.

Teachers and lecturers working in Government and private educational institutions are eligible to apply. Further details can be had on phone number 94407-03263, a press release said.

Advice to SHGs

Chairman of Andhra Pradesh State Cooperative Bank (APCOB) Vasantha Nageswara Rao on Saturday called upon members of women self-help groups to make better use of financial assistance being offered by the Government.

He inaugurated a loan mela organised by the bank's Patamata branch and distributed Rs. 5.13 lakhs to members of 20 SHGs.

Drug traders urged to serve society

Chairman of Sri Durga Malleswara Swami Devasthanam P. Narayana Reddy on Sunday called upon drug traders to contribute their might for society.

He was the chief guest at the installation function of the Krishna District Wholesale Drug Trade Association.

Mr. Reddy said that the drug traders could help the needy in conducting medical camps and distributing medicines.

Writer passes away

Noted writer and former member of Andhra Pradesh Sahitya Academy Paidipati Subba Rama Sastry passed away at his residence in Maruthi Nagar late on Saturday.

He was 89 and is survived by wife and a son.

Born at Saipuram in Krishna district in 1918, Sastry penned several patriotic songs in his childhood.

Editor of `Krishna Patrika' Piratla Venkateswarlu and advocate Karnati Rama Mohan Rao condoled the death of Sastry.
