MADURAI: The health wing of Madurai Corporation has come out with a plan to undertake `dawn spray' on the city streets to eliminate mosquito- breeding points and prevent the incidence of chikungunya by extensive fogging. As the fear of chikungunya looms large, the corporation authorities have decided to take up preventive measures and one effective step is a regular `dawn spray' through which fogging will be done in the morning. "Right now, we take up only `dusk spray' (evening hours). But if fogging is taken up in the early morning also, it will be more safe," N. Kathiresan, City Health Officer in the Madurai Corporation, told The Hindu on Sunday. He said the Mayor and the Corporation Commissioner had given their nod to carry out spraying on an outlay of about Rs.4 lakh. The morning fogging would begin in the next few days and go on till January because the mosquito breeding could be high during this season, he said. The spraying will be done in every locality for a week and gradually the entire city will be covered. The fogging will be completed before 6.30 a.m.
