Wash destroyed

Thiruvananthapuram: Excise and Forest department officials on Sunday raided illicit distillation centres in the Aryanad forest belt and surrounding areas and destroyed 11,000 litres of wash and distilling equipment. The raid in the Aryanad forests yielded 6,000 litres of wash. The officials also seized 5,000 litres of wash and 50 litres of arrack from Cherumanjal, Charupara, Moonnattumukku, Kuthukuzhy, Vettichankunnu, Malavila, Kokotela, Koodalibhagam, Mylamoodu and Oruparakkad. The officials said bootleggers had stepped up their activities in anticipation of the peak demand during the Onam season.

Call for recruitment

of handicapped

Thiruvananthapuram: The All Kerala Parents Association of the Hearing Impaired voiced its protest against the delay in filling up the vacancies reserved for the handicapped in various departments in the district. The district committee of the association which met here on Sunday urged the Government to take immediate steps to appoint eligible persons to these posts. Special Correspondent

Campaign

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Students Union (KSU) is organising a series of blood donation camps in the district in connection with the 62nd birth anniversary of the late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. KSU State president P.C. Vishnunath, MLA, said here on Sunday that the campaign was part of a State- wide programme aimed at creating a directory of student blood donors.
