Government not releasing adequate funds for relief work: Congress
Special Correspondent
BANGALORE:
The Congress has alleged that the State Government has failed to provide relief to the people affected by floods in 250 villages in north Karnataka.
It has said that a delegation led by Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee general secretary Veeranna Mathikatti, MLC, has toured Belgaum, Bagalkot, Bijapur and Gulbarga districts. The affected people in these districts are yet to get relief material.
Stating that the release of water from the reservoirs in Maharashtra caused floods in north Karnataka, the party has said that the Government has not released adequate funds for relief work.
In a report to KPCC president Mallikarjun Kharge, it has urged the Government to take permanent steps to tackle floods in the four districts owing to the release of water from the reservoirs in Maharastra every year. Rehabilitation works should be taken up at a cost of Rs. 428 crore. The party has said that the Government should provide Rs. 5,000 as compensation to each farmer for crop loss.
