BANGALORE: There was anxiety for some time at the International Technology Park Limited [ITPL] and Electronic City, the two major IT hubs of the city, after calls were received about planting of bombs. However, after a thorough search for over three hours by the police and the bomb disposal squads, the calls turned out to be a hoax. Not only the calls turned out to be hoax but it was also learnt that the senior police officers were testing the alertness of their subordinates as well as that of the security staff at the IT installations. Inspector General of Police (Central Range) Jyothi Prakash Mirji told The Hindu that he had instructed to conduct the mock trial. He said instructions had been given to Whitefield and Hebbagodi police stations to undertake this exercise. The exercise proved that the security personnel and the police were fully equipped to handle any such situation. Around 2 p.m. the security personnel at ITPL and Electronic City received a call who immediately informed the jurisdictional While Field Police. The police have, however, stepped up security by deploying additional forces, including personnel from Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP).
