Elected to Advocates Association

D.L. Jagadeesh has been re-elected president of the Advocates Association, Bangalore. He defeated K.N. Putte Gowda. The former association president K.N. Subba Reddy finished third. The other office-bearers elected for 2006-08 were M. Partha (general secretary) and N. Uday Kumar (treasurer). One person, who was caught for alleged proxy voting, later turned out to be a lawyer. A numbering error was later found to be the source of the mistake. Alleging that proper arrangements were not made for the elections, Mr. Subba Reddy wanted to lodge a complaint with the concerned.

Training

programme

The Multi-disciplinary Training Centre attached to the Office of the Commissioner for Khadi and Village Industries, will organise a bakery products' training programme from September 1. The programme will be for two months, and will be held at the commissioner's office near FCI godown, Vijinapura, Dooravaninagar. Educated unemployed youth and housewives can apply. Inter-PU

college debate

The New Generation College for Girls will organise an inter-PU college debate competition in English on September 2. Each college can send two students, one to speak for the subject and the other to speak against the subject. For more details, call Ph: 26578699, a press release said.

B.J. Laxminarayana has been elected president of the Youth Hostels Association of India Karnataka. The other elected office-bearers include K.S. Thimmayya, D. Chandrashekharaiah and V. Satish Kannaiah, all vice-presidents; Purushotham, chairman; P.J. Sreekanth, treasurer; S.N. Ganesh, secretary and R. Shashidhar, organising secretary.
