(there being no issue of the paper dated August 22)

The Lok Sabha on August 20 passed the Home Minister's Bill to increase the number of Judges of the Supreme Court from eight to 11. Commending the Bill for the acceptance of the House, the Home Minister, Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant, said the work of the Supreme Court had increased considerably during the last few years and there were heavy arrears. In order to cope with the present volume of work, the strength of the court had to be increased. Members who took part in the debate welcomed the Bill.
