Vista 2006 puts creative skills to test

Twenty-seven schools in and around Kochi participated in Vista, an annual inter-school arts and cultural festival organised by the Parent-Teacher Association of Rajagiri Public School, recently.

KOCHI: Vista, annual inter-school arts and cultural festival organised by the Parent-Teacher Association of Rajagiri Public School, was held on the school premises. Vishwajyoti Public School, Angamaly, bagged the overall trophy. Bhavan's Vidya Mandir, Girinagar, and Marthoma Public School were the first and second runners up respectively.

Manager of the school Fr. Augustine Thotakkara inaugurated the fete. Twenty-seven schools in and around Kochi participated. Students from Classes I to XII were divided into groups for the 10 major events.

In `Rumble in the Jungle,' kids presented scenes featuring birds and animals, livening them up with songs and dance. In `Muthuchippy,' participants presented action songs.

Collage, story-telling session, memory test, Malayalam quiz, puzzles and dumb show were other events.

Those in Classes III to V participated in `Haiya ho,' which features tribal/jungle dance. In `Tell-a-Tale,' they painted pictures to narrate a story.

Students from Classes V to VIII took part in `Folk potpourri,' which comprised six folk dances celebrating unity in diversity.

In `Time trail,' the students designed the pages of a desk calendar.

Senior students took part in `Get the turntables spinning,' where they had to come up with their own remixes. `Oldies groove' gave the participants an opportunity to accentuate their side burns and forelocks and don bright-coloured cottons and funky bell-bottoms.

They could chose to dress like Shammi Kapoor, Helen, Jayan, Asha Parekh, Prem Nazir or Mumtaz.

In `Smart Ad,' they had to sell GPS-loaded watches or eco-friendly but single-wheeled scooters in 3010 AD, a test of marketing skills.
