BANGALORE: People have a chance to interact with many traditional craftspersons from different parts of the country and see and buy their products at Safina Plaza, Bangalore, where the Central Cottage Industries Corporation of India Ltd. (CCIE) has organised a 15-day show. It started on Monday.

This is to celebrate the festival season beginning with Vinayaka Chaviti and with Dasara and Deepavali round the corner.

You can appreciate and patronise the rich tradition of handicraft and handlooms of India by visiting the show, which will be on till September 3.

The artistes participating in the exhibition-cum-sale of handicrafts include those who have won State and national awards.

They will demonstrate their art and craft by producing artefacts on the spot. A wide range of textiles, cotton saris, and dress materials from West Bengal and Rajasthan, bedspreads, cushion covers, dress material, salwar sets and wall hangings from elsewhere are on display.

Antique items

Antique and decorative doors, and windows from Rajasthan, tribal art and paintings from Orissa, ceramic pottery from Koura in Uttar Pradesh, batik work and terracotta items from West Bengal, furniture from Paramour in Uttar Pradesh are among the items on display in the 12,000 sq. ft. of exhibition area.

CCIE, which works with the guiding line, "surround yourself with India," buys its supply of crafts directly from craftspersons through artisans' cooperative societies and non-governmental organisations working with them.
