Belgaum
Staff Correspondent
Belgaum: The Kotekere (fort lake) Development Authority has decided to develop the lake in Belgaum. The tendered contract work has gone to Darshan Udyog Samuha Entertainment Company. According to sources, the company has proposed to set up a number of amusement games to attract people in all age groups. The work is expected to start soon. Some of the major attractions are pedal boats, speed boats, air boats, scooter boats and motor boats; the thrilling "Columbus"; a rope way running up to 500 ft distance at 35 ft height; a children's park with small "Merry Go" round, small round circles, bike rides, ball pool, toy train, battery-powered dashing cars and jumping balloon. That apart, children can have free entry to mini seesaw, spiral slide, swing, net climber and crystal maize. An oval shaped "family train" to take the visitors around the lake through greenery and an airplane fixed to an hydraulic suspension and with a digital 3D TV screen inside with ultra sound effect to provide a virtual flying experience will be the other major attractions. The "sky rides" that will operate in circular direction during which boarders can have an aerial view of the city and a complete view of the lake from a height of 50 ft is an attractive feature. The company has also proposed to provide indoor games, including on-screen car racing and bike racing, video games for children, pool table, Internet games, super fighter video games all of which will be open even during monsoon. To enhance entertainment value and facilitate shopping, an open land will be reserved to organise entertainment events/festivals and seasonal exhibitions for handicrafts, drawings/paintings, artworks and other ethnic products coming from the village and cottage industry. Apart from a restaurant, there will be fast-food stalls and retail outlets of toys and toy games, gift articles and soft toys. While all such events will come at a price, there will be "free-to-all" cultural events to attract public from all walks of life and age groups. The major attractions will be laughing club, musical shows, magic shows; periodical competitions for girls/women in cookery and mehndi art, rangoli; food festivals, etc.
Advice
Meanwhile, it is learnt that a senior faculty member of Gogte Engineering College, who was asked to study the soil conditions around the lake, has advised against taking up any major constructions as the bunding constructed using the silt removed from the lake is not strong enough to support any solid structure for at least two years.
