PATHANAMTHITTA: The Ayyappa Temple at Sabarimala closed on Monday evening after the five-day monthly puja in Chingam. A `Kalabhabhishekam' and a `Sahasrakalasabhishekam' were performed prior to `Utchapuja.' Tantri Kandararu Rajeevaru, assisted by Melsanthi M. Sukumaran Namboodiri, performed the rituals. A `Laksharchana' was also performed at the Ayyappa Sannidhanam in the forenoon. `Padipuja,' `Udayasthamanapuja' and `Pushpabhishekam' were the other important rituals held. The temple closed with the singing of the sacred lullaby, Harivarasanam, after `Athazhapuja' in the evening. The temple will open on September 3 afternoon for the Onam festival. Pujas will begin on September 4. The Melsanthi will host the `Uthrada-sadya' at the Ayyappa Sannidhanam on September 4. `Onasadya' will be held on the temple premises after Utchapuja on September 5.
