More trains

More trains

At last the broad gauge conversion work between Thanjavur and Tiruvarur has been successfully completed. I request the authorities to run adequate trains to Tiruvarur from Tiruchi and Thanjavur for the benefit of the pilgrims visiting Velankanni, Nagore and Tirunallar.

Parents beware

It is not an uncommon sight in this town to see schoolchildren being carried in autorickshaws in a dangerous way. They are simply bundled up in the vehicles with their heavy bags and transported to the schools and back home by the drivers in a bid to earn more money. The present day traffic and road conditions make it more dangerous to the children. So parents must avoid sending their children to schools in such overcrowded vehicles.

ATM centre needed

State Bank of India, Tiruturaipoondi, is a leading bank in the town, having a large number of account holders. They comprise businessmen, Central and State Government pensioners, landowners and self-help groups. The bank is always busy and the employees are on their toes to cope with the mounting work. A customer has to wait in front of the counter in long queues to withdraw even a small sum from his\her account. Opening an ATM centre is the only solution to this problem. This is a longstanding demand of the customers as well.

Poor service

Customer service at the State Bank of India, Mannargudi, is deplorable. People are made to stand in queues for hours.

There are only three cash counters functioning on good number of days and occasionally there are four. This is definitely inadequate considering the volume of business at the branch. Unless the authorities concerned took steps to improve the services, the image of the bank, which is already affected, will get worse.

Extend concessions

A 30 per cent concession is given to senior citizens (above 65 years of age) by the Railway Department in fares for express trains. But it is 50 per cent for the physically challenged. The same concession may be extended to the senior citizens as well. I request the Railway Ministry to do the needful in this regard.
