DIC(K) leaders quit to join Congress

Staff Reporter

  • `DIC(K) lost political importance after the Assembly elections'
  • Cadres do not understand DIC(K)'s political mission

KOLLAM: A group of Democratic Indira Congress (Karunakaran) leaders attached to the pro-INTUC Kerala Cashew Workers Congress (KCWC) have announced their resignation from the party.

At a press conference here on Monday, the leaders said they would return to the Congress but would maintain the identity of the KCWC.

They said DIC(K) president K. Muraleedharan was removed from the post of the KCWC State president.

This decision was taken at a general body meeting of the KCWC held here on Sunday.

Vice-president of the organisation Krishnankutty was asked to take charge as interim president. Those who announced their resignation include KCWC general secretary and DIC(K) central committee member K.R.V. Sahajan, Kollam district general secretaries, Ayathil Thankappan and Vimala Philip, Alappuzha district general secretary Shah Jehan, Pathanamthitta general secretary Kirathil Divakaran Pillai, party councillor in Kollam Corporation P. Gangadharan Pillai, Kollam district general secretary of the Youth Congress K.B. Shahal, Kollam district executive committee members of the DIC(K) K. Gopalakrishnan, Kothethu Bhasuran and K.K. Sasi and several mandalam-level leaders from Kollam and Thiruvananthapuram districts.

    `Confusion'

Mr. Sahajan said that the DIC(K) lost its political importance after the last Assembly elections. The party was losing the confidence of the cadres.

Though it was assured that the party would merge with the Congress after the elections, vested interests of some the DIC(K) leaders were delaying the process. The cadres were confused and did not understand the political mission of the DIC(K).
