Summons issued to Kumaraswamy

Prakash, Chennigappa also figure in defamation case

  • He says he will make evidence on bribe charge public on Wednesday

    BELLARY: The Judicial Magistrate First Class (Junior Division), U. Chandrashekar, on Monday ordered issue of summons to Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, Home Minister M.P. Prakash and Minister for Forests C. Chennigappa in the criminal defamation case filed by G. Janardhan Reddy, suspended BJP MLC, against them.

    "Register the case against the accused for the offence punishable under Section 500 of IPC and issue process to the accused for the said offence by September 9, 2006," Mr. Chandrashekar said.

    Remarks

    Mr. Reddy filed the criminal defamation case on July 24 against Mr. Kumaraswamy, Mr. Prakash and Mr. Chennigappa for their reported remarks made against him after he levelled the charge that they had accepted Rs. 150 crore from mine owners in Bellary district. Witnesses for Mr. Reddy were examined and arguments were heard on July 12 and case was posted for orders.

    According to K. Venkateshulu, advocate for Mr. Reddy, the process of issuing summons would start and all the three accused were expected to appear before the court on September 9.

    Mr. Reddy, who was present in the court, told presspersons that he would make public all the evidence he possessed with regard to the bribery charge against the Mr. Kumaraswamy, Mr. Prakash and Mr. Chennigappa on Wednesday. "I will produce all the evidence in connection with the bribery case on Wednesday," he said, adding that he was yet to decide on the place — either Bellary or Bangalore — to make it public.
