Alleged irregularities in Outer Ring Road project Leaders raise alleged irregularities in the Outer Ring Road project

  • Probe into HUDA's role urged
  • Government urged to reduce width of road to 300 feet
  • Compensation at market price or alternate land to the displaced demanded

UNITED FOR A CAUSE: Madhusudhana Chary of the TRS, CPI(M) State secretary B.V. Raghavulu, and Kadiam Srihari of the TDP going in a delegation to the Chief Minister's chambers in the Assembly on Monday to petition him on the rehabilitation of Outer Ri ng Road oustees.

HYDERABAD: The Telugu Desam, CPI(M) and TRS have reiterated their demand for a judicial inquiry into the "spate of irregularities" over land acquisition pertaining to Outer Ring Road project in the State capital.

A delegation comprising CPI (M) State secretary B.V. Raghavulu, TDP general secretary Kadiam Srihari, TRS leader Nayani Narsimha Reddy and others submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy on Monday and said a High Court judge must be appointed to bring facts to light. The inquiry must also probe into the role played by Hyderabad Urban Development Authority "as a real estate dealer."

    Vested interests

They said the HUDA was trying to protect vested interests owning land on the city outskirts while targeting the lands of poor and marginal farmers. The frequent changes in the alignment of ORR were a clear indication of the lapses.

They urged the Government to reduce the width of the road to 300 feet from the proposed 500 feet as it would help save the lands of several poor farmers. The Government should provide alternate land to those whose lands were being acquired or pay compensation on the basis of prevailing market rates.

Mr. Raghavulu told reporters later that though the Chief Minister gave a patient hearing to the parties, the response was not "satisfactory." While Dr. Reddy assured that the allegations pertaining to irregularities would be probed, he evaded a reply to the demand for a judicial inquiry.
