KOLLAM: Director-General of Police Raman Srivastava said here on Monday that after the custodial death of a youth, Udayakumar, at the Fort Police Station in Thiruvananthapuram in 2005, no such incident occurred in the State. Addressing presspersons, after presiding over a conference of police officers from Pathanamthitta and Kollam districts, Mr. Srivastava said that some recent unfortunate incidents gave rise to rumours about custodial deaths. Some of the victims in these incidents had been in custody and the others died while being chased by people. On the brutal attack on an excise circle inspector at Kareelakulangara during a raid on an illicit liquor godown, Mr. Srivastava said the police were not informed of the raid. On receiving information about the attack, the police reached the spot within seven minutes. He warned of strong action against policemen who failed to act in time.
