Sports policy soon

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Government will announce a sports policy and revise the policy on youth soon. Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs M. Vijayakumar said on Monday sports would be given more importance and Keralotsavam made more popular and attractive. He was addressing a meeting of representatives of youth organisations here to discuss the sports and youth welfare programmes to be submitted to the Centre for inclusion in the Eleventh Plan. — Special Correspondent

Bachu Rehman files anticipatory bail plea

Kochi: One of the accused in the case relating to the assault on the former Sabarimala Tantri Kandararu Mohanaru, Bachu Rehman, on Monday filed a petition before the Kerala High Court seeking anticipatory bail. In his petition, Rehman said he had been falsely implicated in the case. He had no connections whatsoever with the Tantri. Besides, the police had already recovered the camera and film roll. — Staff Reporter

Bank strike postponed

Thiruvananthapuram: The United Forum of Central Bank Unions has deferred the two-day countrywide strike called by it from Tuesday to press demands such as retention of bilateral talks, ending of violation of agreements, cancellation of indiscriminate transfers, abandoning of victimisation of workers, payment of retirement benefits and filling of vacancies. The leaders of the State unit of the forum said here on Monday that the strike was being put off as the talks were continuing. — Special Correspondent

PSC cancels exam

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Public Service Commission (PSC) has cancelled the Sanskrit examination held on May 6, 2006, for selection of higher secondary school teachers on finding that the question paper was an exact replica of questions in a private publication. The PSC Vigilance will look into whether there was any conspiracy between the question paper setter and the publication. — Special Correspondent
