Proceedings stalled for over an hour

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Opposition parties stalled the proceedings of the House for over an hour during question time demanding that the adjournment motions moved by respective parties over alleged irregularities in land transactions on the city outskirts be allowed.

Speaker K.R. Suresh Reddy, however, stuck to his guns as he disallowed the motions and wanted to take up the questions of members.

He insisted that the Business Advisory Committee meeting, attended by all parties had agreed for a short discussion on the subject after the flood situation was debated.

As members of the TDP, TRS, CPI, CPI (M), MIM and the BJP continued to protest, Mr. Reddy repeatedly asked them to quote a rule of legislature which permitted taking up a discussion on an adjournment motion that was disallowed.

He requested them to guide him in putting into practice legislative conventions.

House adjourned

The Speaker adjourned the House when they were unrelenting.

However, the House returned to order on resumption and the question hour was completed.

He again adjourned the House when the controversy over allotment of evacuee land at Poppalaguda dragged on beyond the norm enforced to allow single supplementary questions.
