HYDERABAD: A three-storeyed building to house the office of the Transport Commissioner was inaugurated by Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy on the premises of the Road Transport Authority (RTA) at Khairatabad on Monday.

The office earlier functioned from two floors in Burgula Ramakrishna Rao building where several Government establishments are located. The new premises has come up at a cost of Rs. 4.5 crores.

The central server of the Transport Department handling computerised data pertaining to 67 lakh vehicles and 80 lakh drivers is installed in this building.

The server, with enhanced configuration, would now help the department monitor the data on a 24-hour basis as it had been freed from the network of servers of other departments that was causing problems in BRK building.

It had also been configured to ensure connectivity with all department offices across the State, offering anytime, anywhere services. The cost of computerisation was Rs. 2.5 crores while the civil works of the building cost Rs. 2 crores.

Dr. Reddy had laid the foundation for the building two years ago.
