I was denied chance to speak in the House, says Sashidhar Reddy
Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD:
Congress MLA M. Sashidhar Reddy on Monday expressed surprise at the way he was denied the opportunity to participate in the debate on floods in the Assembly after Chief Whip N. Kiran Kumar Reddy made the promise.
Talking to reporters, Mr. Reddy said when he made a request to the Chief Whip on Friday seeking 10 minutes to speak on Monday in the Assembly, the latter had not only agreed but promised to earmark 20 minutes just before Revenue Minister D. Prasada Rao's reply.
But, he was not given the chance and the Minister straightaway began his reply.
Asked whether he was denied the chance fearing he would speak against the Government, the MLA said that he had never criticised the Government at any point. All he did was to give suggestions on certain issues like Pothireddypadu.
During the debate too, he wanted to focus on ways of tackling flood disasters and permanent steps required since he is a member of the National Disaster Management Authority.
He said Andhra Pradesh was among the 13 coastal States and Union Territories included in the World Bank-funded National Cyclone Risk Mitigation Project. States had been asked to send proposals in February 2005. Barring Orissa, no other State, including Andhra Pradesh, had sent them till date, he noted.
