Minister urges doctors to observe restraint

Special Correspondent

Ensure that people are not put to inconvenience, says Rosaiah

  • Plan to establish police outposts in major hospitals
  • Security to be strengthened as suggested by doctors' association
  • DME deputed to inquire into the attack on hospital staff at KGH

HYDERABAD: In the light of the violent protest in King George Hospital in Visakhapatnam, Health Minister K. Rosaiah has appealed to doctors, paramedical and other staff as well as patients to observe restraint and ensure that people are not put to inconvenience.

Speaking to reporters here on Monday, the Minister said the Government was planning to establish police outposts in major hospitals and strengthen security measures in tune with the suggestions of the Andhra Pradesh Government Doctors' Association.

It had deputed the Director of Medical Education (DME) to inquire into the attack on the hospital staff by the relatives of a patient who allegedly died due to doctors' negligence.

He said the incident was unfortunate and noted that doctors in Government hospitals in Kadapa, Anantapur and Machilipatnam were planning to strike work.

    Stringent action

The Government would initiate stringent action against the staff concerned if they were found guilty. Otherwise, action would be initiated against those who indulged in violence.

Mr. Rosaiah said it was strange that the patient was taken out of KGH for CT scan when the facility was available in the hospital.

He said charges of corruption levelled by the victim's relatives would be probed, but the Government was concerned about the attack on the staff.
