Meerut: Police on Monday used batons to disperse two groups of students that clashed in Chaudhry Charan Singh University campus here over whether the institution should be reopened. A students' faction that wanted the university reopened and the curriculum to continue as usual broke the locks of the library which led to a clash with the rival group demanding a CBI probe into the alleged evaluation of answer sheets by bogus examiners in Agra. Vice-Chancellor S P Ojha had ordered closure of the university on August 14 after angry protests over the seizure of CCSU professional course answer sheets in Agra and one group of students wanted it remain closed until those involved in the evaluation racket were brought to book. Additional District Magistrate Manvendra Singh and Superintendent of Police U S Jaiswal rushed a police contingent to the campus, which used batons to disperse the clashing students, officials said. A third group of women students of Raghunath Girls' PG College, National Ishmail PG College, Nanakchand Anglo-Sanskrit PG College and Manohar Lal Girls' College squatted on the Meerut-Delhi highway demanding removal of the V-C in view of the racket.
