NEW DELHI: An old man allegedly involved in over 100 cases of cheating, forgery and fraud, has been arrested by the Special Staff of the North-West Delhi police in connection with car thefts. The accused is said to be another "Natwar Lal" as he has conned a number of people, including government functionaries, through his "tricks". Born in 1939 in a Haryana village, Dhani Ram Mittal graduated in science from Hindu College in Sonepat and then in law from Khalsa College at Ganganagar in Rajasthan. He married one Yamuna in 1969, but he developed illicit relations with a widow in Sonepat. According to the police, Dhani was arrested on August 16 when he came to pick up a stolen Maruti Esteem car he had parked outside Sunder Lal Jain Hospital. At his instance, the police recovered another stolen Maruti car. During interrogation, Dhani allegedly revealed that he underwent training meant for handwriting experts in Kolkata and in 1964 he forged documents for the first time for a stolen vehicle. On the basis of forged papers, Dhani once worked as a stationmaster in Bikaner and SDM at Jhajjar in Haryana for 28 days and also as the supervisor of Haryana Roadways.
