Vedike seeks policy to encourage industrial growth in border areas

BELLARY: The Karnataka Rakashana Vedike has urged the State Government, MPs and legislators to pressure the Union Government to get classical status for Kannada.

The vedike has also urged the State to come out with a policy to encourage industrial development in border areas to ensure employment to Kannadigas.

These were among the 20 resolutions adopted at the Swabhimani Kannadigara Samavesha organised by the vedike here on Sunday.

The vedike said the State Government should stick to its stand that Mahajan Commission report was final and binding, besides taking steps for the merger of Kannada-speaking areas, including Akkalkot, Jath, Kasargod, Madakashira, with Karnataka.

The vedike appealed to the Government to ensure that Kannadigas were employed in all industries as per the recommendations of Dr. Sarojini Mahishi report.

The vedike demanded that a special academy be set up for the protection of monuments in the State, including at Hampi. It wanted the Government to prevent atrocities on women.

The vedike urged the Government to ban colas. The vedike sought action to prevent the sale of fake seeds, fertilizers and pesticides.
