Matharoo removed

NEW DELHI: In the wake of his indictment by the Delhi High Court last week for allowing illegal constructions in the Capital's Rohini Zone, Deputy Commissioner G. S. Matharoo was on Monday removed by Municipal Commissioner A. K. Nigam.

Mr. Matharoo has not been given any charge and is awaiting further posting.

Narela Zone's Deputy Commissioner Z. U. Siddiqui has been assigned additional charge of Rohini Zone till further orders.

In other administrative changes, Anil Bamba, who was holding the post of Assessor and Collector, has been relieved from the civic body. Amiya Chandra, presently posted as Additional Deputy Commissioner in Advertisement and RP Cell, has been given additional charge of the post of Assessor and Collector till further orders.

Strike threatened

NEW DELHI: Delhi Zoo employees have threatened to go on strike beginning Wednesday if the Union Environment and Forests Ministry decides to go ahead with a proposal to declare the zoo an autonomous body or registered society.

"We have been protesting peacefully so far. If the Government does not immediately look into the matter we will go on an indefinite protest which will ensure that the zoo remains closed to the public,'' said Delhi Zoo Employees' Union member Nand Singh Rana.

Tubewell work begins

NEW DELHI: Delhi Assembly Speaker Chaudhary Prem Singh on Monday inaugurated re-boring of two tube-wells at Dakshinpuri here.

Stating that Ambedkar Nagar was one of the re-settlement colonies started by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, Mr. Singh warned of strict action against officials found neglecting their duties. He also assured the local residents of regular drinking water supply.

Office inaugurated

NEW DELHI: Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Ram Babu Sharma on Monday inaugurated the office of Janakpuri Block Congress Committee at Uttam Nagar here.

Mr. Sharma said the Union Government would provide relief to the Capital's citizens from sealing and demolitions after examining court orders and consulting legal experts.

Senior Congress leader R. K. Anand and local Councillor Sanjay Puri were among those present.

Workshop on disaster management

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Disaster Management Authority is organising a workshop on "Role of non-government organisations in disaster risk management" here on Tuesday. One of the important components of this initiative is to develop a road map for preparedness.
