NEW DELHI: North Delhi Power Limited on Monday announced that it has become the first power utility in North India to receive accreditation for its state-of-the-art Meter Testing Lab from the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories, which is an autonomous organisation established under the Union Government's Department of Science and Technology. It was after a series of stringent checks and assessment spread over a period of 15 months that the NDPL Meter Testing Lab got this acclaimed recognition. The accreditation signifies that the results obtained on testing at NDPL's lab would be on par with the test results of any laboratory across the globe. Presently there are only around 20 such laboratories in India that are recognised by DST. Laboratory accreditation is a procedure by which an authoritative body gives formal recognition to technical competence for specific tests and measurements, based on third party assessment and following international standards, NDPL said. "Confidence in accreditation," it said, "is obtained by a transparent system of control over the accredited laboratories and an assurance given by the accreditation body that the accredited laboratory constantly fulfils the accreditation criteria." NDPL Chief Operating Officer Arup Ghosh said the recognition would go a long way in further building up consumer confidence. "This reinforces the fact that our meter testing facility is at par with the best facilities in the world. NDPL has been complying with the highest standards of testing followed worldwide and will continue doing so", he said.
