PATRIOTIC NOTES: Students of Sri Sathya Sai Vidya Vihar High School rendering a patriotic song at the I-Day celebrations held in the school
HYDERABAD: The 60th Independence Day celebrations were marked with enthusiasm and colourful programmes invoking patriotic fervour in schools across the city last week. President, Jubilee Hills Education Society, Satyanarayana hoisted the National Flag while Global Hospitals Chairman K.C.Ratnakar, chief guest, exhorted students to be truthful and caring. A pageant of Indian Prime Ministers was the highlight of the cultural programme. I-Day was celebrated on a grand scale at DAV Public School, Safilguda. Pre-primary students dressed up as `Bharat Mata' and national leaders impressed one and all. At Nasr School, Khairatabad, Chitra Ramachandran, Secretary, Department of Tourism and Archaeology was the chief guest and administered oath to the student leaders at the investiture ceremony organised on the day. After an impressive rally by students and flag hoisting, she gave away gold medals and prizes to those who excelled in academics. M.B.Grammar High School, Quthbullapur, also organised investiture ceremony along with I-Day celebrations. Wg.Cdr.K.S.Kumar was the chief guest. Sri Satya Sai Vidya Vihar High School, Bagh Amberpet also had investiture ceremony along with Independence Day celebrations. Noted ophthalmic surgeon A.Venkatachalam was the chief guest. A tableau on `Journey to Freedom' impressed all. Sri Sathya Sai Trust convener A.Ranga Rao presided and scholarships to meritorious students were distributed on the occasion. Gitanjali Devshala students presented a tableau on freedom struggle as part of celebrations. Chief Guest O.P.Goenka called upon the students to follow the values and culture of India. At Princess Esin Girls' High School, the new team of student leaders for 2006-07 was administered oath at the ninth investiture ceremony held on Independence Day. Retired Public Prosecutor of Bombay High Court Amena Nakavi, the chief, guest called upon the parents to give equal opportunities to boys and girls. She also distributed prizes to the winners of various competitions on the occasion.
Li'l freedom fighters
Students of Pallavi Model School, sub-junior block, took part enthusiastically in the I-Day celebrations. Primary school children dressed up as freedom fighters like Lala Lajpat Rai, Alluri Sita Rama Raju and even delivered some of their famous lines. There were also performances based on patriotic songs by the kindergarten children.
