HYDERABAD: These young minds surely seem ignited with a scientific quest. And their projects at the regional level CBSE Science Exhibition-2006 mirrored their attempts to present innovative and cost-effective technologies to answer environmental concerns. The exhibition hosted by Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Jubilee Hills, on Monday showcased around 90 projects presented by some 250 students from 65 schools from Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra apart from Andhra Pradesh. In line with the theme of the exhibition `Science and Technology For Rural Development', the projects were categorised under sub-themes such as `Environmental Management', `Industries for Rural Development', `Land Marks in Science' and `Information and Communication Technology in Education' and `Mathematics Model'.
Green plastic
The exhibition threw up some innovative concepts such a `Green Plastics' project by St. Joseph High School, Kurnool, as an alternative to conventional plastics. The green plastic derived from ridge gourd fibre and soya flour could effectively replace hazardous plastic, students explained. Eco-friendly water purification unit to provide drinking water sans fluoride was displayed by BVB, Jubilee Hills while Sree Vidya Peeth students from Narketpally, Nalgonda, showed how parabolic reflector could be used to boost weak wireless signals in rural areas. Vidya Niketan Public School, Bangalore presented a project `Integrated ideas for Rural development' were some interesting concepts.
Best projects
JNTU Vice-Chancellor K. Rajagopal who inaugurated the exhibition said schools should create right environment to promote scientific temper through such events. School Principal C. Rama Devi said 15 best projects would be selected for national level exhibition.
