It was another week of activities in schools under the Newspaper in Education (NIE) programme, this time the pride of place going to the festivities surrounding Janmashtami.
Students of Sindhi Model School celebrated `Krishna Jayanthi' last Wednesday. Kindergarten children were dressed as Lord Krishna and gopikas. They performed a pooja with their teachers. Parents saw the cultural programme put up by students.
`Krishna Jayanthi' was celebrated as `Children's Day' at Gangadevi Bajranglal Chokhani Vivekananda Vidyalaya, Minjur. Children from L.K.G to class two were dressed as Lord Krishna and Radha. Games such as `uriyadi' were conducted for parents and students.
Students and staff of Sankara Vidyala, Pammal, celebrated their 23rd school annual day. K. Ramanujam, Chief Educational Officer, Kancheepuram, presided over the function. Correspondent S. Viswanathan and secretary R. Gopalan spoke on the occasion. A thematic presentation titled `Manava sevaiyae madhava sevai' was the highlight of the celebration.
Class IX and X students of Vijayantha Senior School had an event that started with a special prayer for Class X students, who would be appearing for board examinations this year.
Class Ten student V. Joyce spoke on `Harmony begets success'. Students also enacted scenes from Shakespearean classic `Merchant of Venice'. A group of 25 students performed Michael Jackson's `Heal the world' on the occasion.
