Car rally in two parts ends at Mayajaal

Not just about speed, it's also about getting the clues right

CHENNAI : An array of cars, in different colours and sizes, lined up at Don Bosco School Sunday morning, for the `Metro Family Car Rally' organised by the Inner Wheel Club of Madras Metro.

The rally, conducted in two parts, had a navigation round and a treasure hunt round, which ended at Mayajaal on East Coast Road.

The registration fee of Rs.600 per car will go towards supporting projects for patients of the paediatric wing of the Adyar Cancer Institute, members of The Banyan and patients at the Kilpauk Medical Hospital.

Ponni, Mala, Lekha and Anitha in colour-coordinated sporty attire looked all set for action in their red Zen. Having participated in previous editions of the rally, they seemed confident.

"We came second last time. The rally is not just about speed, it is also about getting the clues right in the treasure hunt," said Ponni.

For those who thought women were slow on the roads, this is what Rakhi Maher had to say. "We are not rash but that doesn't mean we are slow. I have been driving since when I was in school. Give me any car, van or truck," she said as she sped away.

Nearly 35 teams of four had registered for the rally flagged off by Radha Ranganathan, district chairman, Inner Wheel Club - district 323. Sponsor for the event V.S. Pradeep, managing director of the Cholayil Private limited, was also present. Prizes were awarded in two categories - general and all women's teams.
