AIR specials for the celebrations

Several hours will be devoted to interaction with listeners


  • Programmes will include quiz, songs and interviews
  • In `Madras speak' or Madras `baasha,' listeners can talk to the channel's jockeys

    CHENNAI: The All India Radio, Chennai, will join in the "Madras Day" celebrations with special programmes on Tuesday over FM Rainbow 107.1 MHz .

    Several hours in the day will be devoted to interaction with listeners and visitors to the city, including at the Marina beach.

    The programmes will include quiz, songs and interview with heads of BSNL Chennai Telephones and the State Bank of India.

    The day will begin with excerpts from recordings of interviews done in Chennai with VIPs, which will be interspersed with information about Chennai.

    It will be followed by live phone-in interaction called "Enakku romba pidichirukku' (I like it very much) with visitors in Chennai Central, Egmore, Koyambedu and airport.

    Listeners can interact with each other in `Vazhga Chennai' and discuss positive aspects of the city. At 11 a.m., the channel will celebrate the culinary excellence of Chennai's hoteliers in Madras Masala. Special recipes will also find mention.

    And then comes the `Madras speak' or Madras `baasha' - where listeners can talk to the channel's jockeys.

    In the afternoon, a programme on shopping in the city will be broadcast. The 9 p.m. Chennai quiz with listeners will be anchored by Sumanth C. Raman. The events of the day will end with songs on Madras under the title `Marakka mudiyuma?'
