BEST SHOW: Sonia Sozani, captan of Clarence Public School, receiving the trophy from Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy for the best march past at the Independence Day parade.
BANGALORE: As part of the health club activity, students of class IX and X of Bangalore Public School, Indiranagar, visited Cheshire Home India, a rehabilitation centre for disabled and destitute women. Students were a bit apprehensive whether they would receive a warm welcome from the inmates of the home. Initially, the inmates did not respond properly. Camaraderie was stuck when the children presented a brief cultural programme, which included songs, skits and instrumental music. The children could observe a change in the mood of the elders. The inmates soon began to enjoy the company of children. Children presented gifts to the inmates from the school management. They interacted with the elderly women and heard their stories. When it was time to say good-bye, some students shed tears. A few of them promised to visit the "home" again with their parents. "This visit was an eye-opener for all of us. It has made us realise that service to mankind is service to god," said Rakshitha. N.
