KOCHI: More areas in the city will be illuminated during the Onam celebrations. Separate competitions will be held for illumination of Government and private institutions, K. Babu, MLA, and Deputy Mayor C.K. Manisankar, chairman and convenor, respectively, of the illumination committee, have said. The panel met here on Monday. K.V. Thomas, MLA, and representatives of merchants and traders in the city participated. Areas between High Court and Marine Drive and Park Avenue and Jos Junction, High Court and Madhava Pharmacy and Mahatma Gandhi Road and Jos Junction will be lit up. The stretch from Jos Junction to Cochin Shipyard has also been identified for illumination this year. A meeting of traders and merchants will discuss this on Tuesday. Private bus services within the city should be extended up to 11 p.m. during the festival times, it was suggested at Monday's meeting. District Collector A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish, who presided over the meeting, said a decision in this regard would be taken in consultation with bus owners.
