No room for hawkers on pavements

HYDERABAD: The Government has been given two more weeks to clear the pavements in the twin cities of squatters and hawkers.

The Bench was dealing with writ petition wherein the MCH had submitted a plan to accommodate the hawkers and petty traders in identified zones to ease traffic congestion. On Monday, some hawkers complained to the Bench that their applications for allotment of space in the identified zones were not being considered and they had been asked to vacate the present place of business. The Bench had refused to give interim orders and directed the authorities to take steps to clear the pavements.
