SPOT EXAMINATION: Local Self-Government Minister Paloli Mohammed Kutty and officials inspecting unauthorised constructions in Kovalam on Monday.
Thiruvananthapuram: Minister for Local Self-Government Paloli Mohammed Kutty on Monday said stern action would be taken against unauthorised constructions in tourist destinations in the State. Immediate steps would be taken to end illegal construction at Kovalam, he said, after inspecting the unauthorised structures that have come up between the Vizhinjam Harbour and the Light House beach. The Minister's visit comes in the wake of the directive by the Local Self-Government Secretary T.K. Jose to Vizhinjam panchayat authorities to demolish all unauthorised constructions at the resort. Mr. Kutty said the Government would look into complaints of toll collection for vehicles after revenue land near the beach was encroached on for the purpose. Mr. Jose and Vizhinjam panchayat president Asundha Mohan accompanied the Minister. Mr. Jose visited the adjoining Kottukal panchayat following reports of unauthorised constructions.
