`Bio-ethics relevant

in all spheres'

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Bio-ethics, which is based on love, goodness and empathy towards all living beings, is relevant in all spheres of life, Director of the Sri Chitra Medical Centre K. Mohandas has said. He was talking after inaugurating a workshop on bio-ethics organised by the Department of Philosophy of the University of Kerala in association with the Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) and United Nations Educational Cultural and Scientific Organisation (UNESCO).

"Today, there are complaints that development in science has negative consequences. There is nothing good and bad in science. It is man who makes science good or bad," he said. — Staff Reporter

Elected office-bearers

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Manoj B. Edamana and Meenankal Kumar have been elected president and secretary respectively of the Thiruvananthapuram district committee of the All-India Youth Federation (AIYF) at the three-day district conference that concluded here on Sunday. The committee has decided to launch an agitation for securing clearance for the Vizhinjam container transhipment terminal. A march would be taken out to the AG's office on August 29. — Staff Reporter

School teachers' plea

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The National School Teachers' Union has urged the Government to sanction a month's salary as bonus without ceiling for Government employees and teachers. The State committee also urged the Government to rectify the anomalies in the pay revision order. The meeting decided to organise a dharna in front of the Secretariat to press its demands. — Staff Reporter
