Valsan is all set to leave for Sri Lanka to attend the South Asian Federation Games

CHENNAI: At the World Athletics Finals 2005 in Monte Carlo when Anju Bobby George fouled her first two attempts in long jump, he was the one who ordered another jump that led to her silver medal.

Favourite moments

Chennai-based C. K. Valsan, International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) technical official, lists that as one of his favourite moments in the international athletic circuit.

He is all set to leave for Sri Lanka to attend the South Asian Federation (SAF) Games where he will serve as the technical delegate for athletics, the highest designation for technical officials.

His will be the final word if any changes have to be made to the competition schedule and will also have to give a report to the Asian Athletic Federation once the event is over.

"Great honour"

"I will be an independent body working on behalf of the Asian Athletic Federation. It is a great honour to be appointed technical delegate as only experienced people who are well-versed in the rules are chosen," said a pleased Mr. Valsan.

Rare distinction

He is the only IAAF technical official in India and one of only 39 in the world. This position takes him to some of the fastest track and field events across the world where he is at close quarters with the best in the business.

Commonwealth Games

Earlier this year, he attended the Melbourne Commonwealth Games and towards the end of 2006, will be attending the Asian Games in Doha as an assistant technical delegate.

He said he was looking forward to the Doha Games as Chinese athletes were sure to be promising, looking ahead at the 2008 Olympics which their country is hosting.
