Jobs at Wipro for 102 engineering students

TIRUCHI : Wipro Technologies chose 102 engineering students for the post of software engineers on Monday at the end of a two-day Tamil Nadu State-Level Placement Programme (TNSLPP) organised by the Anna University at the M.A.M. College of Engineering, Siruganur.

A total number of 2,193 students from 30 self-financing engineering colleges spread over the central districts took up the written examination on Sunday, and 410 were chosen for the personal interview. Of them, nearly 70 per cent reportedly comprised candidates in core engineering branches. While 150 attended the interview on Sunday, the rest appeared on Monday. Six technical panels and three HR (Human Resource) panels conducted the interview.

Each of the successful candidates will receive an annual salary of Rs. 2.51 lakhs, said P. Mannar Jawahar, Director, Centre for University-Industry Collaboration.

The TNSLPP was conducted under the overall supervision of Dr. Mannar Jawahar, and two other professors of Anna University, Selvam and Kalaiselvan. As per the requirements of Wipro Technologies, students from B.E / B.Tech. engineering stream had to conform to the following parameters: More than 60 per cent in SSLC and Plus Two examinations, and an average of 65 per cent and above with no standing arrears from III Semester to VI semester in B.E. / B.Tech. Students of MCA and M.Sc. five-year Integrated Software (CSE & IT) with a consistent score of over 60 per cent from SSLC onwards and with no standing arrears were also eligible to participate. The respective Principal / Placement Officers had to certify the students' eligibility to participate in the placement programme.

The two-day event at M.A.M. College of Engineering follows a similar programme at J.J. College of Engineering and Technology last month, with Infosys Technology Limited as the recruiter. Out of 2,084 candidates from 29 colleges who appeared for the written test, 190 students attended the interview and 152 among them were appointed as software engineers for an annual salary of Rs. 2.75 lakhs.

Tiruchi and Salem are the latest venue additions made by Anna University with a view to broad-basing opportunities for students in geographical clusters. In the earlier years, the university used to conduct TNSLPP in Chennai, Madurai, and Coimbatore.
